Campbell River bluesman Rick Adams will host a night of blues music at the Willows Pub Saturday, Nov. 14.
Adams, who has never been a guy to copy the old tunes note for note, has always been on a mission to revitalize the energy and rhythms the old masters had. The result has been called “blues-grass” although Adams says “Rippin’ Wicked Blues’” was the best description he’s ever heard of it.
Adams has opened for Guy Davis, Ken Hamm, Gerry Barnum and played with many of Vancouver Island’s best bluesmen.
The evening will commence with a film crew from the CARIHI media department making a video of Adams for presentation on his webpage, YouTube and MySpace.
Following that there will be performances by some of Campbell River’s best bluesmen and women with Wayne “W.C.” Lemke, Hal Douglas, and Jude deVries.
They hope to be able to create a musical “gumbo” with each performer having his/her turn at the microphone while being supported by the others. This is basically an acoustic evening although there may be electric guitars being played in the solo style of Lighting Hopkins.
There will be no drums or bass to keep the volume down.
To add to the fun The Willows Pub has agreed to provide some gift certificates for best 1930’s type costumes and is cooking up a special “blues menu” featuring Louisiana and Texas fare.
“The Blues” were born out of hard times and we surely have our fill in the world today. Come out and share an evening of this old time music, which always seems to make the listener feel immediately better, and with just a $5 cover charge we will no longer have to wonder, “How can a poor man stand these times and live?”
