Residents of Campbell River are being honoured by the Christian Children’s Fund of Canada (CCFC) for donating over $353,000 in lifetime giving to poverty-stricken children in developing countries around the world.

Campbell River donations earlier this year pushed the city into the top 100 most generous cities nationwide, out of approximately 4,600 Canadian cities and towns that donate to the organization. Campbell River is being recognized with a lifetime achievement certificate – not to mention the appreciation of children all over the world for their generosity and concern.

“As Canadians, most of us have everything we need to survive,” says Christine Clarke, CCFC supporter. “I felt it was important for my children to recognize their good fortune to live here in Campbell River, and learn to care about and share with other children who have less.”

For almost 50 years, hundreds of families in Campbell River have chosen to sponsor children or purchase gifts for children-in-need, resulting in life-saving support for thousands of children and families living in poverty in countries like Ghana, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Burkina Faso, Sri Lanka, India, Nicaragua and Paraguay.

Mark Lukowski of CCFC, added that “Campbell River has shown a generosity of spirit that needs to be acknowledged, especially in light of current economic challenges.”
