Senior, Junior Royals seeking baseball playoff bids

The BCPBL regular season is winding down for Parksville's Quality Foods Royals, and at home up at Springwood on Wednesday skipper Dave Wallace sent three pitchers to the mound in a 2-0 loss to the visiting Nanaimo Pirates.
According to bcpbl.com, in a well-pitched game by both sides, Pirates' starter Cody Chartrand flirted with a no-hitter until the Royals' Ryan Riley singled with one out in the bottom of the seventh to break up the bid.
Pitching for the Royals were Alex Kerr who held the visitors to one run off two hits in two innings of work; Aaron Foulds (2 innings, 2 hits, 1 run), Kevin Phillippe (2 innings, 1 hit, 0 runs) and Max Spensley ( 1 inning, 1 hit, 0 runs.).
Nanaimo's Blake Robson was on fire on the bases going 2-3 at the plate, stealing 4 bases and scoring both Pirate runs, while the Royals' bats were quiet.
ON DECK: the Royals are in Kelowna this weekend and return home to close out the regular season with a double header against the White Rock Tritons July 18.

IN BCJPBL ACTION, Parksville's Junior Royals traveled to Victoria Wednesday where they thumped the Mariners 10-4 in their final game of the regular season to clinch ninth place in the high performance 10-team league at 13-27.
A win by committe, the young Royals, who have been on a bit of a roll of late, led this one 4-0 after two innings and never looked back.
Starting pitcher Mitchell Powelson from QB had a great outing on the hill for the Royals in his first complete game win of the season, giving up four runs on five hits and striking out three Ms.
Offensively, Matt Ney and Blair Gohlke both went 2-for-4 at the dish, and Brett Genoe delivered a double.
"We got out to a good start and we kept it going," surmised Royals' co-coach Scott Rodway. "The boys played well."
ON DECK: The Jr. Royals travel to Serauxman Stadium on Wednesday (5 p.m start) to take on the Nanaimo Pirates in a nine-inning game to decide who advances to the final 8 playoff round.
