Light pollution is no solution
Beachcomber residents may be unaware of a threat to the glorious dark night skies over their beautiful peninsula.
A subdivison on Prawn Road in the Dorcas Point area has a proposed lighting plan which would see the placement of street lights in the area, destroying night skies for a large number of residents by creating a canopy of light over the elevated site.
There is no street lighting in the Beachcomber area and this is part of the charm of its rural nature. People moved here because of its relatively unspoiled character and its dark skies are an integral component of its beauty.
Little by little developers are whittling away at the edges of the Nanoose envelope, slowly destroying the very reasons most of us located here.
I would urge all Beachcomber residents to contact the RDN with their concerns, especially George Holme, their representative, who may be reached at gholme@shaw.ca. or 250-468-7237.
There is also an RDN meeting on November 10 to discuss this plan and opponents may wish to attend.
