Hats off to health care providers

I recently spent 18 days in the hospital with a staph infection in my left shoulder, which required two surgeries to ensure that the shoulder area was free of the bug.

Unfortunately, the infection has also found a hiding place in my heart and hopefully the treatment of injecting an antibiotic into my system over the next four to six weeks will rectify this situation.

I want to thank the following medical people who are helping me to get better. Surgeon, Dr. Gutmanis; infection specialist, Dr. Forrest; the supporting hospital doctors and my GP, Dr. K Wayne Jones; sixth floor clinical nurse leader, Karen, and all the nurses who looked after me during my 18-day stay, especially those who put up with me during the first few post operation days when I was running high fevers and who were trying to make me as comfortable as possible.

I do know that two nurses were called in specially to look after me and to try to get my temperature under control the Tuesday following my first operation.

I also want to thank nurses Katja and Denise for their advice and help; also Allison, who was always cheery every time I came in contact with her.

With the cutbacks being forced on the medical institutions and staff by the provincial government, we, the citizens of this fine province, should doff our hats and thank the health care givers with a deserved round of applause.
