Vote for, not against

Far too often these days, voters find themselves going to the ballot box and casting their vote against something, rather than for it.

That’s too bad. An election provides voters with one of their very few opportunities to have their say in the overall direction of this great country we call Canada, and it behooves us to think — and think deeply — about what kind of Canada we want to see, and to cast our ballot accordingly.

This is our chance to dream, and to do our small, yet vitally important part, to bring that dream to reality. Yes, the world is a scary place right now, with trouble and turmoil nearly everywhere we look, and it’s not surprising that many people are frightened about the future. But you know what? The world has always been a frightening place, with dangers galore looming on every side. But that hasn’t stopped those with courage from daring to dream of a better society, a more just, humane, caring and vibrant country than they lived in at the time.

If we continue this trend of voting against this or that, of voting for the lesser of many evils, how can we expect to grow as a country?

When you go to the ballot box — and we sincerely hope you do so — dare to dream of the type of country you want to see for you, your children and your grandchildren, and then vote accordingly.

Remember, it’s very difficult for a nation — or an individual, to move forward by running away.
