Constable Pam Bolton is looking forward to Oceanside residents having a fun and safe Halloween on Saturday.

To this end, she asked residents to keep a few basic safety tips in mind.

These include wearing clothing or costumes with reflective tape or markings so others can see them in the dark. As well, she urged trick-or-treaters to follow the rules of the road, walk on a sidewalk or, if there isn’t one, on the left side of the road, facing traffic.

She noted all treats should be taken home to be inspected by an adult prior to consumption. Parents should look at all packages carefully and throw out anything that looks suspicious.

Finally, she said trick-or-treaters should avoid houses and areas that don’t have any lights on.

“Don’t go into alleys, parking lots, wooded areas or vacant lots,” she said. “Travel in groups and carry a flashlight.”
