Elderly man faces drug charges
An elderly Parksville resident is facing drug charges after a police raid at his Oceanside home recently.
RCMP Sergeant Darrell Robertson said a warrant was executed at a home in the 1,000 block of Belleview Road in Parksville in the early morning hours of Sept. 21. The raid came after as a result of an investigation under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act by members of the Oceanside detachment.
The police suspicions appeared to be verified when officers were able to seize an undisclosed quantity of cocaine and cash from the residence.
The 85-year-old male and 43-year-old female occupants of the home were arrested at the scene and have since been released from custody.
In an interview, Robertson said the male suspect is the oldest he has dealt with in regards to drugs over the course of his career, but he stressed that just because someone is elderly doesn’t mean they are devoid of bad habits.
“He’s the oldest I am aware of in a drug seizure,” he said. “However, people may have become involved in drugs in middle age 30 years ago and now they’re older.”
Robertson said the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
