Alleged bottle bandit arrested
An 18 year-old Qualicum Beach male has been arrested for allegedly stealing refundable drink containers from Ballenas Secondary School.
“There have been several complaints in the past,” said Oceanside RCMP Cpl. Garry Cox, who described the actions leading to an eventual arrest last Tuesday, as a joint investigation between RCMP and the school.
The empty beverage containers were earmarked for refund, with money going towards the school’s Make A Difference club for eventual travel to the Dominican Republic, said vice-principal Don Bold.
RCMP Const. Jeff Scott said the suspect had been warned and caught on video before.
“A teacher saw him,” said Scott. “He’s been caught on video numerous times.”
The unidentified suspect charged with theft under $5,000 has been released under a promise to appear in court and been ordered not to appear on any school ground in District 69.
