Kris Kringle welcomes Spazmagic

There are many Christmas craft fairs to consider this time of year but only one Kris Kringle Craft Market.

Previous attendees to the four day long extravaganza featuring door prizes, entertainment and more may recall the wandering presence of costumed characters that include Princess Kringle, Tomte and his reindeer and a family of hilarious trolls.

In keeping with that festive tradition the fair this year adds a new character, magician Spazmagic.

“I’m Karole Kringle’s first cousin and just an extra face that will be there as one of the helpers,” said Spazmagic, a.k.a Brent Beadle.

With sleight of hand and a suitcase full of tricks and toys, the enterprising magician is sure to be a hit with adults and children alike.

Beadle has had an interest in magic since he was a young child, “ever since I saw one kid do a coin trick,” he said. “I was impressed beyond belief. I’m more of a close-up artist and love interacting with large crowds,” he said and counts among his favourite performers David Blaine and another, less well known Houdini.

“Robert Houdini was a very different gentleman from way back when,” said Beadle. “I call what he does vintage. Magic has been around since the time of the pharaohs. There were tricks like the cups and balls painted on the walls from that period.”

Spazmagic joins the rest of the seasonal mascots when the Kris Kringle market arrives at the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre Thursday, November 26 with hours of noon to 9 p.m.

Friday hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with things wrapping up Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Admission is $5 plus any kind of SOS Christmas donation.
