PARKSVILLE — Volunteers from the Parksville Downtown Business Association and Coastal Community Credit Union joined forces for a final downtown cleanup before the winter.

The cleanup, on Sat., Sept. 26, was part of the credit union’s initiative to have employees volunteer to make their communities a better place to live, work and play.

Coastal Community’s Parksville branch manager David Johnston said “from Sointula to Chemainus and Qualicum to Comox, the Coastal crew were out cleaning, cooking, baking, serving, delivering, selling and generally pitching in wherever they can to make a visible, meaningful difference across the Island. This year 121 employees chose to take part in this initiative.

“This was an excellent opportunity to showcase Coastal Community’s greatest resource — our employees and the great things they do in their communities. We appreciate the good work that the PDBA is doing in the downtown. We all feel very much a part of the PDBA and see this as an excellent opportunity to show our support to this worthwhile organization.”

PDBA president Marilyn Hahn said, “when the Parksville branch Coastal team called to see if they could assist ... we jumped at the chance to have them help us with our Fall Downtown Cleanup.

“The PDBA sponsors the Spring Cleanup and we have a core group of volunteers that garden throughout the summer months on private property in the downtown.

“We enjoyed the Coastal team’s enthusiasm and hope that they will be able to help us again the in the future,” Hahn concluded.
