Quality Foods, based in Errington with its flagship store in Qualicum Beach, has announced plans to expand into Courtenay.
In a media release on July 1, the Island-based business stated construction on a new grocery store has begun, with a tentative opening date set for this fall.
One of three founding partners, Ken Schley said he believes the time is right for a move into Courtenay.
“We’re very excited to expand our unique brand of grocery retailing to the residents of Courtenay and surrounding communities,” he said.
Quality Foods already has a well-established presence on Guthrie Road in Comox, and a new 45,000 square foot in Courtenay's Driftwood Mall will draw residents on the south and west side of the Puntledge River.
“We have received many requests for a more accessible choice in food stores to those residents, including Cumberland and Royston shoppers. We will have all of the same features available to shoppers that has made our Comox store an award-winning shopping destination,” said Schley.
Although no opening date has been scheduled for the new store, Schley would only say the plan is to be open before the end of the year, and construction begins immediately.
Earlier this year, Quality Foods opened a grocery store in Powell River on the Sunshine Coast.
