The North Island Silvertips have separated themselves as an elite team in the B.C. Major Midget League.

Nanaimo’s top minor hockey team (8-4) swept the South Island Thunderbirds in Victoria last weekend, winning 3-2 Saturday and 8-0 Sunday.

Teagan Waugh, Curtis Toneff and Dylan Moore scored in the close game, with Kolding Larson earning the win in net. On Sunday, Beau Blanaru had a pair of goals and Sean Maguire picked up the shutout.

Waugh, the Silvetips’ captain, is now the league’s leading scorer with 13 goals and 25 points.

The ’Tips play at Port Alberni today (Nov. 7) and tomorrow against the Vancouver Northeast Chiefs (9-2-1).
