The Nanaimo Clippers and Cowichan Valley Capitals probably wish there were a little more at stake when they play tonight (Nov. 7) in Duncan.

The B.C. Hockey League rivals are battling for positioning in the Coastal Conference standings, but a little lower down in the table than usual. Nanaimo (6-8-0-4) was in sixth place going into weekend play, while Cowichan (6-13-0-1) was last.

Already, the Capitals’ slow start has led to changes at the Big Stick. Longtime Caps coach Scott Robinson was fired last month and replaced by Dale Purinton.

The situation in Duncan became more pressing last weekend, as the Caps reached the one-third mark in the season with a loss to Powell River.

“We’re looking for wins anywhere we can take them right now, especially at home,’’ said Caps’ captain Joey Massingham.

GAME ON … The Clippers and Caps play tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Island Savings Centre in Duncan … Nanaimo’s home game against the Powell River Kings Friday was played after press time. Please look for results in the next issue of the Bulletin.
