The Nanaimo Clippers won what ended up being their only hockey game of the weekend.
The city’s B.C. Hockey League team (6-8-0-4) scored a convincing 5-1 win over the tough Powell River Kings (13-7-1-2) Friday night at Frank Crane Arena.
The Shipmen were also scheduled to play a Halloween game down the Malahat against the Victoria Grizzlies, but the Grizz, their roster depleted by flu, asked that the game be postponed.
In Friday’s win, Colton Cyr scored a pair of goals to lead Nanaimo’s offence. Tyler Mah, Kyle Kramer and Brayden Jaw – back from injury – scored the other goals and Mike Domsodi had two assists. Mark Segal made 29 saves for his first win with the Shipmen.
The Clips and Kings meet again this Friday (Nov. 6) at Frank Crane.
