The Nanaimo Pirates have a bright future, based on the success of their junior affiliate.

Nanaimo’s under-16 fall ball team won the Jim Wray Memorial Tournament last Sunday, defeating the host Abbotsford Cardinals 4-3 in the final.

The team had to get past the Fraser Valley Chiefs 2-1 in the semifinals.

Fireballer Kenton Schroter was one of Nanaimo’s standouts at the tourney.

The Pirates wore Vancouver Island Baseball Institute uniforms for the event, as VIBI is overseeing the fall ball season.
