Big baseball game goes Thursday
Updated: July 21, 2009 11:46 AM
It's the biggest ball game of the season so far.
The Nanaimo Pirates play the Abbotsford Cardinals this Thursday (July 23) in a play-in game for the final playoff berth in the B.C. Premier Baseball League.
The Pirates (19-27) finished eighth in the BCPBL, just ahead of the Cards (17-27). Abbotsford closes out its regular season Wednesday, but can't catch up with Nanaimo because the Pirates won the season series three games to one.
That means the Premier Pirates get home-field advantage for Thursday's contest.
There's pressure, but the Pirates prefer to look at the game like they have nothing to lose.
"We're definitely going to put everything out there. We know it's a do-or-die situation so we've got to come out firing and take a win here," said Steve McKinnon, pitcher/first baseman.
Either McKinnon or fellow hard-throwing righty Cody Chartrand will get the start on the mound Thursday.
GAME ON … First pitch is scheduled for noon at Serauxmen Stadium … Admission is free … Please look for a full game preview in Thursday's News Bulletin.
