WEB EXCLUSIVE: Junior B T-men play biggest game

The Nanaimo Timbermen junior B team is taking a disciplined approach to its playoff games.
Its rival, the first-placed Victoria-Esquimalt Eagles (11-4-0), are a rough bunch. That roughness could get them into penalty problems, something the T-men are hoping to avoid and use to their advantage.
“They are a pretty tough team,” said Irene Morrison, junior B team manager. “They are big boys and they are very rough.”
Head coach Ken Morrison said the team has been working on its discipline, character and offence in preparation of the games.
“Our advantage is we have one of the best offences and defences in the league,” he said.
The playoffs is a best-of-three contest and it’s been a tight race this season, with only a three-point spread between the first placed Eagles and fourth-placed Timbermen (9-5-1).
“We were all really close it could have been anybody’s,” said Irene.
The two teams squared off against each other Thursday night on the road. It was a hard fought battle but the Eagles came out ahead in an 8-6 victory.
Morrison said it was an evenly played game all the way to through but the Eagles scored two quick goals in the last five minutes for the win.
Tonight (July 12) the teams meet again at the Nanaimo Ice Centre for a 7:30 p.m. game start, admission is $3. The game follows the junior A game at the NIC and could be a little earlier depending on that games outcome.
Irene said she was hoping for another large turnout to support the team.
“The crowds have been really good for the junior Bs most of our games we’ve filled the arena,” she said.
