Extreme midgets score double digits

The Mid Island Extreme midget AAA girls played two games on the weekend – one was close, the other, not so much.

The Extreme got by Saanich 2-1 Saturday on the road, then hammered Sooke 11-0 the next day at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.

Crystal Sutherland and Chantelle Battie each had a goal and an assist in the first game, while Ashley Graham was the winning goalie.

On Sunday, Kaitlin Smith had a monster game with five goals while Chantelle Battie and Brie-Ann Briggs each had a pair. Madison Krassman and Tenille Schwartz were the other goal scorers for the Extreme. Jenaya Bennett earned the win in goal.

The previous weekend, Bennett and her Extreme teammates shut out the Kerry Park midgets 4-0 but lost 3-2 to the North Island Edge.

Bedrock Clippers get first win of fall

The Nanaimo Bedrock Redi-Mix Clippers Tier 1 boys’ hockey team earned its first win of the pre-season last weekend.

The squad defeated Comox 4-1 Sunday at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.

Travis Briggs led the attack with two goals, while James Datoff and Kyle Vestby each scored once. Paul Brebber picked up two assists and Cameron Large was the winning goaltender.

The previous weekend, the Bedrock Clippers lost a pair, falling 2-1 to the Juan de Fuca Grizzlies Sept. 27 and 3-1 to the Cowichan Valley Capitals midgets the next day at Chemainus’ Fuller Lake Arena.
