Jakobsen, Houle win first hill climb

Stefan Jakobsen and Rose Houle reached the top in more ways than one last weekend. The two cyclists won the inaugural Oak Bay Wheelers Nanaimo Hill Climb Championship up Doumont and Weigles roads Sunday.

Jakobsen set the new men’s record in the 5.5-kilometre event with a time of 12 minutes, 28 seconds. Shailie Sanbrooks set the women’s record in 16:47 but competitors received age handicaps to even the field and so Houle’s time of 17:45 was adjusted to 15:33.
