Nanaimo has seen a lot of change in the past few years and as a result, city hall is looking to examine its economic development strategy.

The city is looking to hire a consultant who will help identify and develop a new economic development strategy for the city.

The last strategy, titled Working Together To Build A Prosperous Future, was published in 2002.

Since then, additions to Nanaimo like the Port of Nanaimo Centre, Diana Krall Plaza and Maffeo Sutton Park improvements, and proposals like the cruise ship terminal and airport expansion, have changed Nanaimo’s economic drivers.

The new strategy, expected to cost $60,000 and be complete April 2, will assess Nanaimo’s new and emerging economic driver opportunities.

The request for proposal deadline is Nov. 27 and the project will be awarded on Dec. 14.

For more information, please contact the city’s economic development office at 250-755-4466.
