Mounties in Port Alberni are investigating a Nanaimo connection to a smash and grab at the West Wind Beer and Wine Store in that city.

Two suspects smashed through the front door of the beer and wine store on Cherry Creek Road Monday at 4 a.m. and made off with an undisclosed amount of Polar Vodka in an older model Dodge Spirit stolen from the 400 block of Lambert Street in Nanaimo.

Three suspects were involved, two who broke into the store and the driver who stayed in the car.

Police are investigating any possible links between that crime and an attempted break and enter at the B.C. Liquor Store in Longwood Station in north Nanaimo at 3:30 a.m. Monday.

In that case, two suspects tried to pry open the front doors, but failed to gain entry and fled in an older model Chevy Camaro or Pontiac Trans Am driven by a third suspect when the store’s security system activated the interior lights.

Anyone with information about these crimes is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP detachment at 250-754-2345, Port Alberni RCMP detachment at 1-250-723-2424 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
