The South End Community Association honoured the memory of one of its own Sunday by planting a tree in the memory of longtime Irwin Street resident Gino Sedola.

The ceremony took place at the corner of Irwin and Milton streets near where Sedola, who died October 2008, grew up.

The tree was planted by Sedola’s neighbours, members of SECA, friends, family and city officials.

Sedola spent 14 years on city council and another decade as chairman of the Nanaimo Harbour Commission. His vision prevented widespread commercial development of the waterfront and led to the green space and seawall that citizens use every day.
