A collision between a compact car and a dump truck sent one man to hospital Thursday.

The crash happened shortly before 9 a.m. on a curve near Hub City Paving at 61 Nanaimo River Rd.

Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman, said the driver of the dump truck reported he had just pulled over on the side of the road after missing his turn into a driveway when a compact 1992 Ford hatchback came around the corner in a sideways drift and slammed into the front of the truck.

The driver of the car suffered multiple leg and arm fractures and was trapped in the car until he was extracted by firefighters and taken to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.

O’Brien said road conditions were wet and rainy and the driver of the Ford was ticketed for driving without due care and attention.
