Fire damages mobile home

Fire crews were called to Ed’s Mobile Home Park off Park Avenue at about 1:30 a.m. Monday to put out a fire that started in a back room of a trailer.
Neighbour Wally Peters didn’t know anything was amiss until he heard fire trucks and looked out to see smoke billowing from next door.
Peters, 81, said the couple who live in the trailer moved from Kitimat and have been busy renovating the house, including putting on a new addition. The house was put up for sale recently.
Doug Bell, fire investigator with Nanaimo Fire Rescue, said there was heavy damage where the fire started and there is smoke damage throughout the mobile home.
Fire officials had not investigated the cause of the blaze by press time Monday.
