Public asked to help ID suspected bike thief
Nanaimo RCMP are asking for the public’s help to identify a possible suspect behind a number of bike thefts around the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital recently.
The male is described as Caucasian, in his early 20s, slim build, with short dark hair and often wears a grey hoodie and black pants. He has an earring in his right ear and often carries a black backpack.
Police say there has also been a rash of bike thefts in the Townsite area. Many of the thefts happened in daylight and some of the bikes were stolen from residences while the occupants were home.
Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman, said police believe the suspect may not be working alone and many of the thefts could have been prevented if bikes had been locked.
Anyone with information about the suspect or a recent bike theft in the Townsite area is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
