Nanaimo RCMP is looking for a few good volunteers.

The Mounties and the City of Nanaimo are giving free monthly public presentations for the fall and winter months with the first topic on volunteering for the RCMP.

Two session will be held Tuesday (Sept. 22), the first at Oliver Woods Community Centre, 6000 Oliver Rd., at 2 p.m. and the second at Vancouver Island Regional Library’s Nanaimo Harbourfront Branch, 90 Commercial St., at 6 p.m.

Presenters will give an overview of volunteer groups associated with Nanaimo RCMP, such as Victim Services, Community Policing, Citizens On Patrol, Harbour Watch and Speed Watch.

Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman, said people new to Nanaimo often look for ways to get involved in their community and this is a great way to meet new people and do something worthwhile.

Nanaimo RCMP has more than 120 volunteers and is always looking to add more, said O’Brien.

To register for the presentations, please contact the Oliver Wood Community Center at 250-760-1140 or e-mail owccvolunteer@shaw.ca.
