A 39-year-old man was stabbed Monday after an altercation with an unidentified male suspect.
Nanaimo RCMP say the victim, who was sent to hospital, was attacked with a knife around 5:30 p.m. on the 700 block of Nicol Street, near Nanaimo's downtown.
"The victim is known to police and we believe he was an acquaintance of his attacker," said Const. Norm Smith, RCMP spokesman. "This was not a random attack so there is no danger to the general public."
Smith said the injuries sustained by the victim in the attack were not life-threatening and that police are continuing the investigation.
