Pianist mixes classic styles
Updated: November 04, 2009 3:52 PM
By mixing styles between classical and jazz, pianist Chris Jarrett exposes the content through contrast.
Since he started his career in Germany in 1985, he signed operas, oratorios, ballet music, symphonic pieces, music for film and theatre and numerous piano compositions. Today, one of his most appreciated projects is Battleship Potemkin where he is performing live a piano score he composed to Sergei Eisenstein’s famous silent movie.
For the 2006 world soccer championship, Jarrett composed Viertelfinale (Semifinal) for 11 strings, which translates a football game into the language of contemporary music. Jarrett recorded nine albums and has performed all over the world. His concert in Nanaimo, Hommage, was written in honour of great composers like Scriabin, Byrd and Mozart.
Jarrett performs Saturday (Nov. 7), 3 p.m., at St. Paul’s Anglican Church. Tickets at Music Maxx and Tom Lee Music.
