Mobile guitar festival returns
Updated: November 04, 2009 3:51 PM
North America’s longest running mobile guitar festival celebrates its 10th year.
Brian Gore, the visionary and founding member of International Guitar Night, has remained true to the concept of bringing together some of the world’s most highly-respected finger-style guitarists to create a multicultural listening experience.
Joining Gore on stage are Lulo Reinhardt, Itamar Erez and Stephen Bennett at the Port Theatre Friday (Nov. 6) at 7:30 p.m.
Co-founder of Django Reinhardt and the Heartbreakers, German born guitarist Reinhardt’s performing style reflects upon the many places he has travelled, most notably Spain and southern America, where he explored various styles of Latin jazz.
Israeli-born, Canadian-based composer, pianist and guitarist Erez’s music is a crossover of various genres from European classical and jazz, to world music and beyond.
Earlier this decade, Erez worked on the soundtrack for the National Film Board’s documentary, Raised to be Heros, which premiered at 2007’s Hot Docs and Vancouver International Film Festival.
Harp guitarist Bennett, an Oregon native who grew up in New York and now calls Virginia home, is known for his intellectually challenging and emotional compositions.
Gore’s compositions are drawn from myth and modern day literature. Gore started International Guitar Night in 1999 performing around California and, since then, it has grown to include Canada and the UK.
Tickets are $32; $28/members; $17/students. Please call 250-754-8550.
