Ecologist discusses survival
Award-winning ecologist Crawford Holling will speak on how coping with change is key to survival of ecosystems – and humans – Sunday (Nov. 15) at the First Unitarian Fellowship of Nanaimo.
Holling is known internationally as the father of resilience theory, which describes how social and ecological systems survive climatic or economic shocks.
His talk will apply his theory to what is currently happening in our society and examine why we are facing ever larger destruction of financial markets and energy supply, as well as threats to food and water security.
An Emeritus Eminent Scholar at the University of Florida, Holling is a former faculty member at the University of British Columbia.
Holling’s talk begins at 11 a.m. at the First Unitarian Fellowship, 595 Townsite Rd.
