Housing needs of people living with developmental disabilities in the mid-Island region will be the focus of an Oct. 17 workshop.
Planned Lifetime Advocacy Network, a non-profit organization established in 1989 by families committed to securing a good life for relatives with a disability, will present Dare to Dream, a program focussing on housing options, affordability, living supports, security and legal issues.
A panel of experts will speak on the issue and people with developmental disabilities and their families will be among the participants discussing and sharing their needs and concerns.
The workshop will run from 9:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre. Lunch and refreshments are included in the $20 fee. Pre-registration is required through Doreen Shaw at 250-468-7955 or president@pdacl.ca
Community Living British Columbia was created by the provincial government to provide services and support for developmentally disabled people.
Community councils have been established by Community Living to provide input from the community into their operations. The Central Island Community Council serves the mid-Island from Duncan to Bowser and the West Coast.
