Plenty of action at baseball wind-up

The minor league baseball wind-up on Sunday afternoon in Lake Cowichan challenged the young players talents in various events and stressed fun, fun, fun.
Divided into two teams, the players competed in a tug of war events, running the bases and hitting.
There was plenty of action and cheering, especially during the base running, and in the end it was a tie.
Organizers decided that rather than hold a playoff, they awarded the trophy to both teams.
That was clearly the right decision, as the kids swarmed around the trophy when it was awarded. Most of the youngsters wanted to touch the trophy, just like they see when the Stanley Cup is awarded.
Although it’s the end of the baseball season for most of the players, a group of Mosquito League players will continue as members of the provincials team that will represent Cowichan Lake in August of 2009. That’s when Lake Cowichan will host the big event.
“We really need people to come forward and help us organize the provincials,” said Jeff Bell, who along with Micah Anderson just received the required baseball coaching credentials.
“Having the provincials here will be huge for our community and we need people to help us get things organized — and we need this help now.”
