P1 zoning is exactly what needs to be maintained at the lake

EDITOR: The property in Lake Cowichan previously known as J.H. Boyd is zoned P1. By the official community plan and previous public input, this zoning should remain as such.

Mr. Kelly waived the subject to rezone on the purchase of this property after his initial rezoning application was rejected and he still chose to complete the purchase.

I am definitely not against development in the Cowichan Lake area nor am I against a church being built on this property in question. What I am against is publicly zoned property being rezoned for private development.

In fact, having a church on the property is one of the many options with the present P1 zoning. Thank goodness the public spoke loudly against the previous rezoning application by Mr. Kelly.

If the town council had not listened to the public, the option of a publicly functioning, community benefitting church would not have been possible on this particular land.

The P1 zoning is exactly what needs to be maintained for this whole piece of property to continue for its intended use, for all the general public to enjoy.

It’s easy, just yield to the traffic that’s in the round about

EDITOR: Am I the only one that has had many close calls in the round about?

It is simple people: Yield then merge into the round about if no one is coming. They may have removed the stop signs, but stopping is inevitable sometimes.

There was a white Ford that drove right out in front of me today and she didn’t even bother once to glance my way. With the slick conditions, we are both lucky I didn’t T-bone her.

All an accident going 20 to 30 kilometers an hour is going to cause is a headache, so it really is worth it to just have a look.
