After more than 25 years as a trustee, Wilma Rowbottom of Lake Cowichan isn't running for re-election in school district election.
Municipal election heats up with 3 for mayor, 11 for council

The nominations are in and there are more than enough candidates running in the November 15 Lake Cowichan, local electoral area and school district elections.
Mayor Jack Peake will be seeking re-election against Stan Pottie and Ross Forrest, while 11 candidates are seeking four seats as town councillors.
Pat Weaver, Tim McGonigle and Kristine Sandhu will be seeking re-election against Carolyne Austin, Bob Day, Rita Dustow, Stephen Hall, Frank Hornbrook, Jayne Ingram, Gil Mauro, Greg McCallum, Terry Pool and Lizanne Ward.
Incumbent Pat Foster recently announced she won’t be running after 15 years on council.
Twelve candidates will be seeking nine seats on the School District 79 board, but veteran Wilma Rowbottom and current chair Brian Simmons are not among them.
Incumbent trustees Ann Anderson, Barb de Groot, Diana Gunderson, Eden Haythornwaite, Kristine Sandhu and Julie Thomas will be trying for another term, while newcomers Deb Foster, Rodger Hunter Patty McNamara, Cathy Schmidt, Hannah Seymour and former director of elementary education Candace Spilsbury will be making their first attempt at the school board.
In Electoral Area F, Ian Morrison, Joan McKenzie and late nominee Gracie McDonald will be trying for Joe Allan’s seat on the Cowichan Valley Regional District board. See story on page 6.
Allan announced his retirement last month.
Brooke Hodson, Area I director, is also stepping down. Klaus Kuhn and former director John Ward will be vying for that seat. See story on page 7.

Nominees have until Friday to withdraw their names.
