Members of Cowichan Lake Baptist Church mourn death of Edson girl, granddaughter of the Herns

Many residents in Lake Cowichan are also mourning the death of 14-year-old Emily Stauffer in Edson, Alberta 10 days ago.

Emily, who was attacked and killed on a walking path September 27, was the granddaughter of Pastor Allen and Sheila Hern, who lived in Lake Cowichan for six years while the pastor ministered at the Cowichan Lake Baptist Church.

Emily, daughter of Pastor Terry and Juanita Stauffer, was in Lake Cowichan in the summer for the retirement party for the Herns and many in the church’s congregation met her.

Mayor Jack Peake said he was visiting the Herns in Kamloops, just after the convention for the Union of B.C. Municipalities in Kelowna, when the Herns received the bad news.

The funeral was held last Saturday and Pastor Hern spoke, urging Edson residents not to despair.
