These two Lake Cowichan women finished the Great Lake Walk, despite their blisters

Rita Viviers and Jesyka Ehristien of Lake Cowichan finished the Great Lake Walk on September 15, but were inadvertently missed in last week’s list in the Gazette.

In their first attempt at the 56 kilometres, they had an impressive time of nine hours, 45 minutes and 43 seconds, which put them 120th.

“A great deal of training, time and effort went into this adventure, not to mention blisters,” said Viviers. “Jesyka and I were motivated by the loss of loved ones to cancer, as well as those still battling. Raising over $4,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society (B.C. Yukon division) has been a great part of this entire experience, however, finishing the walk was an overwhelming feeling also.”

Viviers said that when they came across the halfway mark they decided that the 28-km sign was the best sign they had ever seen.

“That was until we came across the one kilometre to go sign,” she said. “Will I do it again? Yes, as long as Jesyka is by my side and I have a day or two off work to heal blisters.”
