The First Lake Cowichan Guides have been involved in a postcard exchange with their counterparts in Australia and 2½ weeks ago they got to meet them.
Guides from the Alice Springs District of Australia — which includes the towns of Alice Springs, Tennant Creek and Darwin in the state of Northern Territory — are on a 28-day tour of Canada and the United States, with their first stop September 20 in Lake Cowichan.
Donna Beacham, a Lake Cowichan Girl Guide leader, said the trip had been planned for a year.
After arriving in Victoria, the visitors took the train to Duncan, where their hosts picked them up and took them on a totem walking tour before driving to Lake Cowichan for lunch in the Scout Hall. They then went on a walk about town.
“Oh, it was great fun,” said Guide leader Donna Beacham, who added that their visitors were anxious to see the lake. “Everyone made new friends and had a wonderful time.”
