About Us
Whether you want to water ski, wakeboard, boat, swim, hike, cycle, fish, kayak, golf or just suntan on a beach, the Cowichan Lake area has it.
Cowichan Lake is one of the largest freshwater lakes on Vancouver Island, stretching 34 kilometres west from the town of Lake Cowichan. It is four kilometres at its widest point.
The area - ÃÂ?ÃÂ??ÃÂ?ÃÂâ??ÃÂ?ÃÂ??ÃÂ?â??ÃÂ?ÃÂàwhich includes the Town of Lake Cowichan and rural communities of Caycuse, Honeymoon Bay, Mesachie Lake and Youbou - is in the middle of a temperate rain forest, with lots of rain in the winter and lots of sun in the summer.
The mountains surrounding the lake provide a heat trap that helps produce the highest average daily temperatures in Canada. In the summer, that means an average of 24 degrees Celsius, although it regularly climbs above 30 degrees.
The name Cowichan is appropriate, since it means warm sun on your back.
Lake Cowichan is the largest community at the Lake, with roughly half of the areaÃÂ?ÃÂ??ÃÂ?â?à ??ÃÂ?ÃÂ??ÃÂ?ÃÂâ?ÃÂ?ÃÂà ?ÃÂ?ÃÂ??ÃÂ?â?à ??ÃÂ?ÃÂ??ÃÂ?ÃÂâ??ÃÂ?ÃÂ??ÃÂ?â??ÃÂ?ÃÂâÃÂ?ÃÂ??ÃÂ?â?à ??ÃÂ?ÃÂ??ÃÂ?ÃÂâ??ÃÂ?ÃÂ??ÃÂ?â??ÃÂ?ÃÂâ?ÃÂ?ÃÂ??ÃÂ?â?à ??ÃÂ?ÃÂ??ÃÂ?ÃÂâ??ÃÂ?ÃÂ??ÃÂ?â??ÃÂ?ÃÂìÃÂ?ÃÂ??ÃÂ?â?à ??ÃÂ?ÃÂ??ÃÂ?ÃÂâ??ÃÂ?ÃÂ??ÃÂ?â??ÃÂ?ÃÂâ?ÃÂ?ÃÂ??ÃÂ?â?à ??ÃÂ?ÃÂ??ÃÂ?ÃÂâ??ÃÂ?ÃÂ??ÃÂ?â??ÃÂ?ÃÂâs 6,000 residents.
