Two Ladysmith soccer stars are set to face some of North America’s best youth players.

Mairi Horth and Kerys Malli both play on Vancouver Island teams that qualified for the Super Y-League finals in Tampa, Florida next month. Horth is on the U15 team while Malli plays at the U16 level.

Both of their teams placed second in the Pacific Northwest division during regular seasons that ran from May to July.

Gord Horth, the U15 team coach and Mairi’s father, expects tough competition once tournament play starts on Nov. 19. He said the mostly American opponents will push the pace of play.

“I think our girls will do fine. We’re quite a competitive team. But I think you have to come prepared to play every game and every minute of the game,” he said.
