Creegan connector not safe for children

When we first heard about the plans to extend Creegan Road to the highway from our neighbors, our first concern was what is this going to mean to our property. With possibly hundreds of cars going by every day, we would have problems with littering, noise, pollution and probably vandalism. Many area houses are just a few feet from the road. With easy access to a get-a way route, troublemakers would see us as a big candy box!
Then we started to think about children on the street and at school. This is even a greater safety issue. How safe are my grandchildren going to be when they come to visit? We do not think it at all appropriate to dump hundreds of cars a day into a school zone especially when the route isn't required in the first place. If another exit to the highway is ever needed for Chemainus, there are many more logical and efficient routes.
How many of our local parents know about this project and how imminent it is? If our properties are at risk from transient travelers, how much more of a threat is that to our children?
Does the school board approve of this and what do they say is required to make the children safe in this situation? What is the impact on parents?
This area is not a highway corridor. We do not want more pavement. We want our children to be safe from highway traffic when walking to school. If any Chemainus parents out their agree with me, let your council know!
