Police have released a more recent image of the suspect in a Ladysmith sexual assault.

Shaun Richard Funk, 35, is wanted on two Canada-wide warrants for sexual assaults, kidnapping, robbery and break and enter.

Police say a public appeal and recent media coverage helped Vancouver Island RCMP uncover the picture and new information in their investigation. However, they have declined to discuss what further details have emerged.

A second image was released to the public today (Nov. 10). Police say it was taken within the past six months.

Funk was identified based on evidence from investigation into an alleged break-in on Malone Road in late September and an alleged kidnapping in Squamish in late August, RCMP say.

The former resident of Alberta and Manitoba is described as a caucasian male with brown hair and eyes. Police say he stands between 5-8 to 5-10, weighing around 150 lbs. and with a slim build. He also has a mole on the right side of his chin and "tribal art" tattoos on his upper right arm.

Police say he has neither a known address nor vehicle, describing him as a drifter who has had a crack cocaine habit and is known to frequent campsites.

The Malone Road break-in was one of two separate incidents in Ladysmith on Sept. 26 where women in their 50s were confronted in their homes.

At 2 a.m., a woman living in the 100 Block of Buller Street woke to find a man in her bedroom. She was not injured before the man fled. Police have not announced a suspect in that incident.

At 3:30 a.m., another woman woke to find a man in the bedroom of her home in the 700 block of Malone Road. She was physically and sexually assaulted, police said.

The Squamish incident happened on Aug. 28. Police said a woman was sleeping in her parked car near a recreation centre when a man forced his way into the vehicle. The 39-year-old woman was held against her will for several hours and sexually assaulted.

Funk is also being considered as a suspect in other incidents on Vancouver Island. Police say he poses a high risk to public safety and that they are confident he was on Vancouver Island in late September.

Anyone with information about Funk's location is asked to call 911.
