There is no longer a mandatory retiring age for Ladysmith firefighters.

The town has changed its bylaws so firefighters can keep working up to age 65, when their membership with the department will cease, unless they get a physical assessment confirming they are medically able to perform all duties of a firefighter.

The changed bylaw also gives the fire Chief the ability to require a firefighter have a physical assessment before a 65th birthday, is there are reasonable grounds to do so.
