Flu shots and education at fair

Get your flu shot, and at the same time gather up some information about other facets of health.
The annual Ladysmith health fair is Nov. 7, this year at the Frank Jameson Community Centre, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“We have it to correspond with the influenza immunizations,” said Heather Dunne, the site manager for Ladysmith Community Health Centre. “You get your influenza immunization, but you get some education.”
At last year’s event, approximately 500 seasonal flu shots were administered, according to Dunne.
“I would imagine it would be more than that,” Dunne said, of demand for this year’s shots.
Both the H1N1 shot and regular flu shot will be available. The shots are also available on Nov. 6 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Ladysmith Secondary School.
But on Nov. 7 at the community centre there will be information from community organizations like the Canadian Cancer Society, Lifeline, the Health Care Auxiliary, and the Ladysmith Resources Centre Association.
Also attending is Social Planning Cowichan, which will provide some information about it, and get feedback from Ladysmith residents about what matters to them around social planning.
“There will be a self-guided tour of the community centre,” Dunne added, noting there have been some additions to the centre in the past year.
