Events

• Check out the Festival of Lights complete with parade, fireworks and beautiful lights at Light Up on Nov. 26.

Volunteers are always needed, so keep an eye out for opportunities to sign up. Whether you’re with friends or family, there’s no doubt that Ladysmith’s Light Up isn’t something to miss.

• I know you hear the same things about Remembrance Day every year, but it really is important to remember all of those people (some no older than us) who went to go fight for their country and endure things that we have never had to experience because of them.

Sure, the poppies are kind of cool, but they symbolize something really significant. Try and really think about all of that for this one day, Nov. 11, at the very least.

Theatre

• It’s that time of year again. Ladysmith Secondary School Improv is back and tickets will be available at the LSS office, the door or at Salamander Books. There’s always dessert and an amazing variety show. Shows are Nov. 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, and 21. They are always worth it so bring your friends or family and enjoy. Each show is different.

Music

• Marianas Trench is coming to Nanaimo on Nov 15. The New Cities and Carly Rae Jepson will also be performing. The concert will be at Beban Park and tickets are on sale now. Doors open at 6:30 p.m..

• Open Mic Night is on Nov. 25. Come out and support or, if you’re an LSS student, sign up yourself.

Admission is free but donations are welcome. If you go to LSS, check out the matinee performance during lunch on Nov. 24.

Movies

You can almost hear the fan-girls already, can’t you?

The second installment of the Twilight Saga, New Moon (rated PG-13), is set to be released into theatres on Nov. 20.

Chris Weitz directed this one, so we can expect something a little different from the first movie (Twilight) directed by Catherine Hardwicke.

In New Moon, Edward Cullen leaves Bella and the town of Forks because he thinks it’s too dangerous for her to be around him. Bella spends her year in a numb state, but through becoming better friends with Jacob Black her heart thaws a little.

Jacob has a secret of his own though, and Bella is forced to make a choice between them.

After a disappointing first movie, we can only hope that this one will be at least marginally better. To see the official trailer go to www.newmoonthemovie.com.
