October 28, 2009 - Vancouver Island: Local youth will be saying “Yes!” to Coastal Community Credit Union for its successful fundraising and celebrations during Credit Union Day and Co-op Week.
“Coastal Community Credit Union is very pleased that our “Just Say Yes!” fundraising initiatives will allow at least eleven youth from Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands to attend The YES Camp next year. Generous contributions made by our members, clients, and employees have already helped generate $7,100 for this program. The fundraising success behind our “Just Say Yes!” promotion and our 2010 calendars is a positive reflection of the incredible community spirit among Island residents,” says Adrian Legin, Coastal Community’s President and CEO. “We are thankful to everyone who has supported Coastal Community in making a visible and meaningful difference in our communities.”
Coastal Community launched its “Just Say Yes!” promotion during International Co-op Week, the week of October 13th, as a way to highlight the community-oriented cooperative values that make Coastal Community and other credit unions and co-operatives unique.
Coinciding with the promotion was the introduction of Coastal Community’s 2010 “Island Gems” calendar, featuring local photos taken by its employees. The “Just Say Yes!” initiative, along with proceeds from calendar donations, helped to raise awareness and funds for The YES Camp, a youth leadership program, held in the Cowichan Valley.
The 2010 “Island Gems” calendars are still available by donation at all Coastal Community locations, with proceeds continuing to go to The YES Camp. Past camper, Megan, remarked, “I had an amazing time at YES Camp! It was like living in a community that we developed ourselves.” The meaningful learning opportunities inherent in the program are what make Coastal Community a long-standing supporter of The YES Camp. Youth wishing to apply for the camp’s 2010 session are encouraged to apply through Coastal Community’s website at www.cccu.ca.
“On behalf of our employees and directors, I would like to thank our members and clients for supporting our community initiatives, as well as using our personal banking, business banking, investment, and insurance services,” says Legin. “The spirit of co-operation and helping one another is what credit unions and co-operatives were based on, and it’s very rewarding to see that this spirit lives on.”
