Campbell River Mirror office graffiti-resistant

The Campbell River Mirror’s office is the first building in town to be made tag-proof.

“That’s the first one in Campbell River to get the non-stick coating,” said Mike Rebbitt of Seicoat Canada, a graffiti-removal service. “When people hit it with paint, it won’t stick.” Rebbitt has been working throughout the city in recent years, removing graffiti from businesses and public places. After making repeated trips to the Centennial Pool and park, he finally convinced the city to apply the special graffiti-resistant coating to the wall in the park hit frequently by taggers, and so far it seems to be working – graffiti in the park has declined. But the Mirror’s office building was treated first, he said. Siecoat, based in Ladysmith, used to operate as Mid-Island Graffiti Removal, but this month became a franchise of California-based Seicoat. Owner Darren Stackhouse said the coating his company uses is the only one in the industry which allows businesses to simply wipe spray-painted tags off the walls with a paper towel, or with low-pressure cold water.
