Big comeback by Cowichan
Taking on two Frances Kelsey players requires Cowichan's Sean Gibson to cut through the middle during high-scoring high school soccer game.
Jonas Golf-Myers scored in the 83rd minute to cap a remarkable comeback in Cowichan Secondary School’s 5-4 senior boys’ soccer win over Frances Kelsey.
Kelsey built a 3-0 lead in the Thursday game, scoring from a free kick and two breakaways.
But Cowichan came roaring back with goals from Sean Gibson and Connor Crichton, who converted a penalty kick after Wayne Robinson was brought down in the box.
Undeterred, Kelsey regained a two-goal lead after connecting on a corner kick just before halftime.
Cowichan tightened its defence in the second half and crept back again behind stellar goaltending from Tim den Hartigh.
Robinson scored from the top of the 18 and Jacob Campagne tied it after immense pressure. Space opened up for Golf-Myers to notch the winner.
Second-place Cowichan now advances to the North Island playoffs.
