When Dayne Ellison isn’t playing hockey, which is most of the year, he’s getting ready for it.

Ellison, 15, was one of the 36 forwards — and one of only two from the island — who skated at the Under 16 provincial camp in Penticton that ended Sunday.

To prepare for his busy summer of hockey, he worked out with Jeff Compton in Victoria and did boxing training at Final Round Martial Arts Centre in Duncan.

Next up for Ellison, who played for the Racquet Club Bantam AAAs last season, is the South Island Thunderbirds Major Midget tryouts Aug. 7 to 9 followed by Western Hockey League camps for the Vancouver Giants Aug. 20 to 22 and Portland Winterhawks Aug. 23 to 25 and the Cowichan Valley Capitals’ B.C. Hockey League main camp starting Aug. 26.
