Cowichan cricket team beats Alcos

Cowichan quickly returned to the win column after a rare loss in the Victoria and District Cricket Association the previous week.

Playing at Windsor Park in Victoria, Cowichan scored a solid total of 222 against Alcos that put the team in superb shape for the victory.

Sunil Nagaraj and Mike O’Flaherty opened the innings. Nagaraj was out for 31 with the score at 43 after only eight overs.

Jake Phillips came in and was out fairly quickly with the score at 54 in 10 overs and O’Flaherty went out for 24 in the 19th over.

Young Alex Crowe and Clayton Bodkyn, captain for the day, batted well together and took the score to 149.

Crowe was out for 32 in the 34th over and replacement Shawn Pryce lasted until the 40th over.

Steve Mayall and Dave Norrish took the score to 22 after 45 overs. Mayall was 12 not out, including a pair of fours.

Alcos finished with a total of 103 for 10.

O’Flaherty bowled well, taking four wickets for 16 runs. Shelby Newcombe ended up with three wickets for 31 runs, Nagaraj had two wickets for 21 runs and Phillips managed one for 15.
